127 Hours (2010)

127 Hours. Judging by the title and the movie poster you will think that it will be a boring movie that centered around a hiker, going hiking on the canyon. Yes it is true, it is just about a hiker hiking on the Blue John Canyon, except it is not boring at all (at least not for me, I guess this movie is not everyone cup of tea, nevertheless I enjoyed this movie very much). Moreover, it is based on a true story of Aron Ralston's experience of going hiking Blue John Canyon on April 2003. Well actually the movie is based on his autobiography entitled Between a rock and a Hard Place which recorded his 5 1/2 days of his ordeal on Blue John Canyon and mostly about his life, but the movie concentrated on his ordeal more rather than about his life.

The movie is pretty amazing for me, James Franco who played Aron Ralston sure knows how to act. He showed a realistic acting that deserved awards and he sure did get many nominations for his acting. Well, I am expecting great things from him in the future. The glory of this movie really belongs to Danny Boyle who directed it. Fans and critics really have high hopes after 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire and thankfully, he did not disappoint us with 127 Hours.

Well, I don't want to give spoilers of the movie, so I will give a short review of this movie. 127 Hours is about Aron Ralston who went hiking Blue John Canyon, the problem was, he did't tell anybody about his departure there and he sure did get into a messy trouble over there. During his journey, we can almost feel the excitement and the exhilarating feeling of cycling, walking and hiking through the canyon and not to forget the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful with the brownish orange chalk stones and the hidden pool. He sure did had an amazing adventure and I can almost tasted it too (through the skillful and beautiful cinematography of Anthony Dod Mantle and Enrique Chediak) . Unfortunately, while climbing a narrow path he fell along with a huge stone and that huge stone crushed his hand, trapping him. He had been trapped for 5 1/2 days, hence 127 hours, with just 500 ml of water, a packet of food, a camera, a camcorder and his hiking stuff. After that we will see how he cope with his loneliness, hunger, coldness, delirium, regrets and how he showed us how strong his will of survival was. The main shot of the entire film is of him getting stuck under the huge stone, but I was impressed how Danny Boyle and James Franco managed to bring me inside Aron Ralston mind and the shot had expanded freely from there. The movie is pretty intense and surprisingly amusing at times, although it just a simple story of a man getting stuck somewhere in the canyon.

His hand was stuck and he cannot move it. Slowly the blood circulation stopped.
Aron (James Franco) screaming for help after being trap.
Aron (James Franco) trying to free himself
This is the real life Aron Ralston, who managed to take a picture of himself while being trapped
The real life Aron Ralston who now, is a Public Speaker and still enthusiastically going for various new adventure despite his condition.
The movie is very inspiring, it showed how far and how willing a human can go to survive. Who ever, in need of something inspirational can go watch this movie. Impressive acting, beautiful scenery, exhilarating feeling, and fantastic music score. Seriously you guys have to watch this, for those who is squeamish and doesn't like blood, I advise you to close your eyes while watching a scene from this movie, it is really graphic.  Below are some links and the movie trailer, for more information about the movie.
